ROOMPOT STRANDHAUS - HOEK VON HOLLAND

Review of Three Nights in a Beach House at Roompot Park - Hoek van Holland

Just look at this – isn’t it simply beautiful?

This is the house where I spent a wonderful weekend from January 19, 2024, to January 22, 2024.

I have always wanted to spend a weekend (or even longer) in a house right by the sea, and this year’s birthday was the perfect opportunity.

I chose this house because it accommodates up to 6 people. We were five people plus my dog, which worked out perfectly. Adding one more person would have been a bit cramped. Since most of the time spent in the house is in the living room/kitchen area, it would feel a bit tight with six people over a longer period.

THE LOCATION - 5 *****

Roompot Park is located in Hoek van Holland, about a 30-minute drive from The Hague, 16.6 km away. From Cologne, it’s roughly a three-hour drive, or about 4.5 to 5 hours by train.

The expansive beach is right at your doorstep, as is the harbor. There is plenty to see, with enormous cargo ships passing through the port.

From our house, it was about an 8-minute walk to the first beach club, with several more following.

THE HOUSE - 4.5 *****

Of course, there are more luxurious beach houses, but I still give this one 4.5 stars because it is well-rounded and charming.

The layout is good – you enter the house via the terrace and directly into the living room. It features a pull-out sofa bed, a dining table, and an open kitchen with a large refrigerator. The bathroom is also located downstairs.

A staircase leads to the first floor. On the right side is the master bedroom, with a double bed, balcony, and a view of the sea and the beach.

On the left side is a bedroom with two single beds and a view of the dunes when the windows are opened.

The furniture isn’t brand new, but it’s neither worn nor unhygienic.

One minor drawback is that it can become quite wobbly in windy conditions; my bed shook a lot during a small storm one evening.

AMENITIES - 5 *****

Ground Floor

BATHROOM: Shower, sink, shelf with 5 compartments, ample towels

KITCHEN: Large refrigerator, dishwasher, oven, microwave, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine (small pods), teapot, dishes, pots, pans, etc.

First Floor

MASTER BEDROOM: Double bed (140x200 cm), small wardrobe, sideboard, balcony

LEFT BEDROOM: 2 single beds, wardrobe

In the video, you can see what the first floor looks like – filmed from the spiral staircase.

SERVICE - 3.5 ***

I must say that the welcome was very warm and we were provided with all the necessary information. However, there was one situation that wasn’t so great and led to unnecessary discussions...

Before the luggage is transported to the beach house, it is tagged with (sustainable) bands showing the house number. I had tagged a bag and placed it on top of my suitcase to indicate that the two belonged together.

Upon arrival at the house, however, only the suitcase was there, but not the bag. The band was on the suitcase, even though I had attached it to the bag.

I then called the reception and was told that I must have done everything incorrectly and was accused of only attaching the band to the suitcase, etc. This was unnecessary and frustrating. After a long back-and-forth, the bag was eventually brought to us; it was simply left there without a word. To me, this is not what good service looks like.

Unfortunately, there was also no instruction on how to operate the heating, so we were without heat on the first evening, and this was in mid-January...

Overall, the service was satisfactory!

CONCLUSION

Perfect for a weekend with friends or a small family if you want to have a great time by the sea and be right on the beach.

WILL DEFINITELY RETURN :-)
